Dear Fun 4 Kidz Supporters,

Fun 4 Kidz is the true epitome of a grassroots organization.  This organization was founded in May of 2005 by a few friends who felt that they could truly make a difference.  Fun 4 Kidz was founded based on one common vision inspired by the story of one single child.  Although this child may never know, her story inspired our team to create something that has changed lives (and will continue to do so). 

The 2004-2005 school year was my first as a full-time teacher.  I had a student in my 9th grade class who was an average student but an incredible basketball player.  She had real talent despite never benefiting from formal coaching.  In school she kept the minimum grade requirements to stay academically eligible for basketball.  On the court, she excelled as a freshman on the junior varsity team.  Outside school, she suffered from a life that included two AIDS-infected parents (one who had passed away), a younger brother and a younger sister, and a step-parent experiencing kidney failure.  Sadly throughout that year, she lost her mother to AIDS.  Her grades slipped and her eligibility to compete on the court vanished.  As a teacher, I could only do so much.  I brought her food when I attended her games, I listened, I referred her to a counselor.  However, in the end, it wasn’t enough.  This was the inspiration.  There HAD to be more that could be done to support children like this.

As the 2004-2005 school year was coming to a close, Fun 4 Kidz began it’s ascension to an official organization.  Beginning with a vision, continued by research and finally implementation, Fun 4 Kidz became identified as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization by the IRS and began helping children.

Looking forward now, Fun 4 Kidz prides itself on directly impacting the lives of children.  We conduct programs that enhance the lives of children in disadvantaged situations.  As to not ramble about all of our endeavors, I urge you to explore the programs that we offer to accomplish our mission.

Fun 4 Kidz is looking towards a bright future.  With the hard work of our executive board, the guidance of our esteemed advisory board, the participation and support of our sponsor athletes, and the support of the community, the possibilities are endless.  Fun 4 Kidz will continue to be a mainstay in Miami-Dade County for years to come!  Even as we expand (most recently to Kingston, Jamaica), Miami-Dade will always be our home, our base of operations, and our number one priority!
